An appreciation of PHIL COLLINS: You’re not worthy

::applauds the writer of this article::
Amen, Mr. Thompson, amen!! This blogger took the words right out of my mouth.
Honestly, I couldn’t have said it better myself!
Those who are petitioning against Phil’s impending comeback, need to seriously re-examine his career & body of work well beyond that of “Sussudio” & “One More Night” to rediscover what an amazing musician & human being Phil Collins truly is.
Need I remind his detractors that during each of his tours from But Seriously through his Final Farewell tours, Phil raised money for the local homeless shelters in each location he played in & then personally matched the donation. How many other rock musicians can say they’ve done that?
On that note, please enjoy this “guest post”. It’s definitely well worth the read. šŸ˜Š

Make Your Own Taste

I retired from blogging about music in July of 2015, after many years of frequent posting. My fingers and brain were tired. However, I am coming out of retirement for this one special post, one which I feel compelled to write. Anyone with an ethical bone in his or her body knows that we have entered a really weird cultural period, dominated by the Internetā€™s insidious role in life, every foolā€™s newfound outlet to spew whatever crap he or she wants, no matter how idiotic or hurtful. Cyberbullying, cyberracism, cybersexism, hey, call whoever whatever names you like. No one can stop it. One thing making the rounds this week was some jerkā€™s petition to demand Phil Collins not make a comeback to music. While this is not on the same level as insulting peopleā€™s race or sexual orientation, it still says something about the catty, superficial natureā€¦

Phil’s Committed to His Dreams For The LDF Kids

With disappointment in his eyes and a heartfelt apology, Phil Collins had to disappoint his fans by canceling his performance at the Little Dreams Foundation Gala & Dreaming on the Beach concert in Miami last Saturday night. This was a much anticipated event as it was toĀ be Phil’s first stage performance in 4 years.

Phil had every intention of performing on Saturday, however rehearsals on Friday and Saturday would prove otherwise. As explained by Orianne Collins-Mejjati, Co-Founder of the Little Dreams Foundations, Phil’s voice was riddled with vocal problems. “Phil has spent all day with the doctors…” she stated at the eleventh hour. Elaborating further, Phil worked with his physicians, doing everything possible, right up to performance time, to get his voice in shape to sing. Ā Nothing seemed to be working, so at the strong advice of his physician, he had no choice but to cancel his performance. You can see the video from Phil’s apology by clicking on the link below…″ broke the story,Ā citing a “neurological affliction” as Phil’s reason for his last minute cancellation. However, truth be told, no specific cause for his vocal problems was identified. Escorted by his youngest, Mathew he did appear on stage looking not well at all. It is the opinion of this blogger that Phil couldĀ have been suffering from something viral rather than neurological.

Needless to say, many attendees were disappointed and understandably so. In the days that followed the event, the LDF Facebook page received a number of positive and negative comments from attendees. Some went so far as to demand a refund of ticket price, even though they heard performances of Phil’s songs by other internationally superstarsĀ including Richard Marx, Laura Pausini, and Alejandra Guzman, as well as the LDF Band. In response to those comments, the Little Dreams Foundation released this statement:

Statement from Phil Collins’ Foundation Regarding
December 6 Gala Event

“Thank you very much for the incredible, heartfelt support that was in full effect at the 2014 Little Dreams Foundation concert on December 6. We worked hard to bring you artists from all over the world, along with tomorrow’s young stars, who performed their hearts out on stage.

As you know, Phil Collins was scheduled to perform a few songs at the end of the night; however, he suffered an illness during sound check and doctor’s were brought in to see him. Phil wanted to perform and be there for his fans, the children and the Foundation. His health was monitored right up until the time when he would take the stage. The doctor’s insisted that he could not do it. He addressed the audience and, with great sadness, told them what happened.

Everyone is concerned for Phil’s health, and rightfully so. We hope that you’ll understand that this situation was completely out of his control, and he’s sorry to have disappointed his fans. Because this is Phil’s charity and only operates on the highest level of integrity, the Little Dreams Foundation is offering a voucher for the full, face value of the ticket amount towards the December 5, 2015 concert in lieu of refunds. This will affect the funds we had hoped to raise for the children for 2015, so to alleviate that, Phil Collins has personally made a donation of $100,000 to the Little Dreams Foundation.

We appreciate the support and understanding that we have received. The vast majority of attendees have told us that they had one of the most touching and best experiences ever. For that, we’re eternally grateful. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your understanding and hope that you will continue to support Phil Collins and Orianne Collins-Mejjati in their efforts to make dreams come true for children. ”

Orianne Collins-Mejjati
Co-Founder & Chairman
Little Dreams Foundation

When this statement was released, I, personally, could not have been more touched and impressed by Phil’s actions. He has taken it upon himself to alleviateĀ theĀ potentialĀ shortfall the foundation’s 2015 benefit concert couldĀ face.

That being said, I would like to propose that those of us who were unable to attend the Little Dreams event on December 5th, all make a donation (whatever you can afford, I know the holidays are upon us & budgets are tight). I, personally, will be making a donation of $50.Ā If we all band together, perhaps we can make an honest attempt at matching Phil’s donation.
Donations can be made at the Little Dreams Foundation website:Ā
In the upper right, there is a “Donate” button to click to make your donation.
Thank you all so much for considering a donation. šŸ˜€

Before I go, I’d like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas & A Happy, Healthy 2015! šŸ™‚

Phil’s Back & Sounding Better Than Ever…

After a bit of a hiatus over the last few months, I found out just exactly how he’s been lately.
Here’s the lowdown:

At the end of May, PhilĀ performed for an audience for the first time in four years.
His first performance included In The Air Tonight, which he hadn’t sung in over 9 Years, and Land of Confusion, which he last performed on the Turn It On Again Reunion tour in 2007.

In a 17 minute set, Phil appeared relaxed, happy, and healthy on stage with the music students of Miami Country Day School. With wit and humor, he carried on his usual banter with the audience, proving he hadn’t lost his touch on stage, despite it being well over a year since his last performance.Ā And of course big props to the student band as well, who did a fantastic job accompanying Phil, especially, Nic Collins on drums – he slayed his father’s famous drum fill, proving once again, “like father-like son”.
Here’s the link for all to enjoy….

In other “Phil’s back in music news”, he recently finishedĀ writing and working in the studioĀ with Adele. According to People Ā magazine, mega-producer Ryan Tedder of One Republic fame, confirmed to MSN Music,Ā “he’s returned to work…”Ā Her new album is rumored to be titled 25Ā and is scheduled for release in early 2015. Tedder alsoĀ commented in People magazine,Ā “She will deliver the album on her own timetable, at her own pace…And the only person that will ever declare it finished will be her, when she decides it’s finished.”

Lee Sklar also announced recently that Phil has gotten his touring band back together forĀ three weeks ofĀ rehearsals to see if a possible tour in 2015 would be feasible. Confirmed original members of the band include Daryl Stuermer, Brad Cole, Arnold McCuller, Lee Sklar, and Amy Keys. Unfortunately, Chester ThompsonĀ looks to beĀ not available forĀ these rehearsals, butĀ is replaced byĀ none other than Jason Bonham. Rehearsals started in Miami on August 16th. It is not known at this time if Phil plans to play drums or not yet.

These rehearsals also go hand in hand with his preparation for theĀ Dreaming on the Beach ConcertĀ on December 6th to benefit The Little Dreams FoundationĀ at The Filmore in Miami Beach, FL, United States. This is a wonderful opportunity to see Phil perform live for the first time in four years, as well as possibly mingle withĀ him at the gala before the concert, and support a worthy cause. What’s not to loveĀ about this? Totally a win-win-win situation! šŸ˜€ Ā Tickets for the concert onlyĀ go on sale starting Sept. 12th. through TicketMaster by calling 1-800-745-8000. There will beĀ only 2,100 seats available, however to guarantee a seat, sponsorships for the Gala are also available now through the Foundation.

And now in to the news about new music from Phil…
The only new music that I am aware of at this time, is the material he is working on with Adele for her album…which, I, for one, am looking forward to! šŸ™‚

So I think that about covers everything for now…
Until Next Time, My Fellow Phil Fans…. šŸ™‚

Oh, and there’s a new poll available to vote for Phil for the 2015 RRHOF Induction…be sure to vote for him under the Other categoryĀ in both voting sections. šŸ˜‰Ā

Finally Some Respect…

After 20+ years of less than kind treatmentĀ from the media, Phil Collins is finally getting the respect he so richly deserves.Ā Could the “It’s not cool to like Phil Collins” trend finally be over?

In November 2013, while at the premiere of the Tarzan Broadway production in Stuttgart, Germany, Phil announced that he has started writing again, citing he missed the creative process. He’s even talking about possibly coming out of retirement to record his first album of original music since Testify in 2002.

More recently, he’s even announced that he’s writing with Adele, who’s album, 21, earned her several Grammys, and was named the biggest selling albums in 2012. As a fan of Phil and of Adele, I am really looking forward to this collaboration. šŸ˜€

Since the November announcement, Phil has made himself much more visible, including, the opening of The Little Dreams Foundation‘s US foundationĀ in Miami, FL with co-founder, Orianne Collins; appearances at the premiere of the Beautiful, Carole King BroadwayĀ production in January 2014, as well as the Sound of Contact show just few days ago on April 29th, bothĀ in New York City.

All of this attention has spawned a series of positive articles on various websitesĀ such as, New York Daily, andĀ
With article titles such as…
Why There Will Never Be Another Pop Star Like Phil Collins
Phil Collins Goes From Reviled To ReveredĀ
(Note: this article was sent to the RRHOF Induction Committee as part of my 2nd submission package.)
Is Phil Collins The Godfather of Pop Culture?

Sure, some of the articles out there took minor potshots at Phil for being out of touch with the pop artists of today, but even HE admitted in one interview to “living in a cave”.
But seriously (no pun intended šŸ˜‰ ) Phil, you must have made quite an impact on Adele during her formative years for her to want to writeĀ with you specifically.

ThisĀ justĀ proves once again that Phil Collins is still very much a viable and important artist to rock & roll music.
